Visitors from the planet Verdant came to Earth three-hundred
thousand years ago and altered the DNA of the inhabitants to
produce humans, a species in the aliens’ own likeness. Over the
millennia, the Verdantians continued to monitor progress of the
human race on Earth but by the middle of the twentieth century were
alarmed that the inhabitants showed no sign of ever managing to
civilize themselves. Verdant decides to make contact.
The alien craft lands and two women alight from it. One of them,
Charlie Newton, is known to have been raised on Earth. The two
women’s message is that mankind is about to self-destruct.
Charlie’s ex-fiancé, John Day, is told by President Bennett to get to
the bottom of the mystery. What’s behind this unbelievable
prophecy? John rekindles a former relationship with secret service
agent, Deborah Ricci, while the President and his cabinet struggle to
determine the real reason for the sudden appearance of the extra-
terrestrials.
